Judge Jessica K. Peterson skillfully presides over Department 8 of the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court, managing a diverse docket of Civil, Criminal, and Probate matters. Her judicial record is impeccable, with a vast majority of her decisions affirmed by the Nevada Appellate Courts.
Prior to her appointment, Judge Peterson dedicated two decades to private practice, including her tenure as a junior partner at Flangas Law Group. This extensive experience representing a wide array of clients - plaintiffs, defendants, businesses, and individuals - has provided her with a broad knowledge and a balanced, comprehensive perspective. She further honed her judicial skills through four years of service as a Court Appointed Arbitrator.
Judge Peterson is deeply committed to ensuring that all who appear before her understand her well-reasoned, fair, and law-based decisions. This commitment to seeing both sides of an issue is a trait she has valued since her externship with the Honorable Charles Johnson of the 57th Circuit Court for Emmett County, Michigan.
Beyond the courtroom, Judge Peterson is an active member of the community. She is a current Member and Past President of the North Las Vegas Rotary Club and the Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys. Her dedication to service also includes previous roles on the Board of Directors for the Rape Crisis Center and three years as a Truancy Diversion Judge. She regularly dedicates time to charitable and community based organizations, such as the Compassion Initiative, 100 Women Who Care, and the LIMA Diversion program.
When she is not working or partaking in community events, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Jessica also partakes in a myriad of activities away from the Bench when she can find the time including cooking, painting, reading, bike riding, gardening, traveling and working out.
